“The Wizards In Oz”
January 30 2008
Hordern Pavilion- Sydney, Australia
GRADE : A- / B+
Minor crowd noise.
PA static at beginning of Overture 1928 – Not a flaw of the tape, but of the soundman.
… and here, after a long night deciding what to use in place of what was planned to be the R102 release, switching it twice, and then putting Robert through the paces of “I needed to launch yesterday, you have 8 hours” cover art routine, is “The Wizards In Oz”
In comparison to two of the other Sydney recordings presently in circulation, this one sounded better in it’s raw format before BobS worked his magic on it. The third source that is out there, neither the taper nor myself have heard it for comparison.
A great recording from Dream Theater’s stop in Sydney Australia. My first listen was through the speaker system on the Hi-Fi and everything sounded balance with nice bottom end. Revisiting it this evening for a listen while I was working on the page and email forms (whilst cracking the whip at Robert) I listened on head phones and once again, very enjoyable (although with headphones, I can really hear someone singing along with Through My Words.)
There’s a dual train wreck in Metropolis which is interesting to hear as well as James threatening to set people on fire if they try to leave (he claims to have a flamethrower.)
